Jake Hudnut's Statement on the JCPD Video Incident

June 9, 2017

Jersey City - Jake Hudnut, candidate for Jersey City Council (Ward E), released the following statement on the JCPD video incident:

"While an investigation into the JCPD video is needed, this much should be said now. This incident does not reflect the entire JCPD, but it does highlight our need for fundamental reform in the department. With the right resources including community policing, de-escalation training, and a thorough change in culture, officers can live up to the department's motto: Courtesy, Accountability, Respect, & Excellence.

As councilman I will fight for that reform. I'm not afraid to stand up on this issue. I do it every day in court as a criminal defense attorney and former public defender.

In the mean time, my thoughts are with the victim of this incident and his family."
